The health and well-being of your child is always our top priority. We believe that nothing should distract you from what’s most important, especially when you’re far from home. That’s why we have a team of experts dedicated exclusively to the needs of international patients. We serve more than 2,000 children from outside the United States each year and understand better than anyone the unique challenges and anxieties that families face when traveling abroad for healthcare: How do we obtain visas? Where will we stay? How will we communicate with the doctors and staff? Will our health insurance cover the cost of treatment?
The International Center is here to answer your questions and arrange all the details of your child’s care. Our multilingual case coordinators work one-on-one with families to complete the necessary paperwork, translate medical records, communicate with referring physicians and insurers, estimate and explain costs, and more. And throughout your time in Boston, our attentive and compassionate support staff will be at your side to help you with matters large and small, to ensure that your family’s experience is as seamless and worry-free as possible.
Some of the services and facilities we provide include:
Our personal case coordinators guide you through each step of your child’s treatment, from intake to discharge and follow-up. They handle all the logistics of your visit — collecting medical records, scheduling appointments, explaining costs and insurance — so you can focus on your child.
Our staff members are available to help your family with visa letters and other travel arrangements, including flight scheduling, airport transportation, hotel reservations, and housing.
Our interpreters speak more than 60 languages and are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week (including holidays). The center also provides translation services over the phone and via videoconference software.
The Hale Family Center for Families is a friendly and comfortable place where patients and families can relax and recharge. It offers entertainment (play spaces, books, videos), computer services, access to necessities such as showers and laundry, and help navigating hospital buildings and resources.
We provide connections to area cultural and religious groups and offer assistance with housing, banking, grocery shopping, and more, helping you feel at home during your time in Boston.
Our chaplains — representing the Catholic, Episcopal, Jewish, Lutheran, Muslim, United Church of Christ, and United Methodist traditions — are available seven days a week for guidance, prayer, and spiritual support.
Using interactive videoconferencing and other technology, we securely and conveniently coordinate your child’s treatment with physicians in your home country during all phases of care — consultation, pre-hospitalization, and post-discharge.
