Professional History

Dr. Singh joined the Cardiovascular and Heart Transplant Program in 2005. He was previously Medical Director of the Heart Transplant Program at Children's Hospital of Michigan from 1998-2005. He is a physician-scientist-teacher with an area of excellence in Clinical Expertise and Innovation. He is passionate about improving survival and quality of life in children with heart failure and heart transplantation.

During the fourth year of his Pediatric Cardiology fellowship at Children’s Hospital of MI, Dr. Singh spent several months as a visiting fellow at three pediatric heart transplant programs to learn their best clinical practices. Immediately after completing his fellowship, Dr. Singh helped Children’s Hospital of MI start its heart transplant program and was the Medical Director of the program for 7 years. Dr. Singh also directed the Exercise Physiology Laboratory and performed echocardiograms in Michigan. He was recruited to join the heart failure and transplant team at Boston Children's Hospital in 2005.

In addition to taking care of children at BCH, Dr. Singh am currently an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School. He is also the Chair of the Pediatric Council of the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation (2015-17).

Approach to Care
I went to medical school in New Delhi and was introduced to the field of Pediatric Cardiology when Drs. Lock and Keane from Boston Children’s Hospital visited to perform cardiac interventions in children. I knew then that I wanted to become a pediatric cardiologist. My clinical expertise is in taking care of children with reduced heart function, those who are awaiting heart transplant and children who have received heart transplant. I am also a clinical researcher with an interest in advancing knowledge in my field, specifically in improving outcomes in children with heart failure and after transplant, and in improving understanding of cardiovascular physiology in children in health and disease.

Finally, I am a teacher and enjoy sharing the current state of knowledge with medical students, pediatric residents and cardiology fellows as it applies to clinical practice. Even as I teach what I know, I have always considered myself a life-long student first. My personal philosophy while learning or teaching has always been to understand as deeply as is possible; to get to the bottom of things and then take the larger view of what it all really means.
