OPENPediatrics is a free, web-based digital learning platform designed for physicians and nurses who care for critically ill children in healthcare settings of all kinds around the world. The platform — currently used by clinicians in more than 100 countries on six continents — offers virtual training, tools for sharing knowledge and communicating with other health professionals, and a library of resources including videos, lectures, device simulators, and protocols.
Designed by experienced physicians at Boston Children’s Hospital in collaboration with IBM Interactive, OPENPediatrics seeks to enhance the worldwide quality of pediatric critical care and revolutionize the existing model of post-graduate medical education.
OPENPediatrics utilizes state-of-the-art technology to unlock the world-class medical expertise of hospitals and disseminate a full spectrum of educational resources and training through an interactive, collaborative environment. By effectively linking physicians and nurses across the world in a digital global community, OPENPediatrics leverages the accrued wisdom of its international users and scales knowledge across the world to anyone, anywhere, at any time.
OPENPediatrics embodies the core values of Boston Children’s Hospital, which sponsored the platform in collaboration with the World Federation of Pediatric Intensive and Critical Care Societies. Version 1 of the platform, which launched in April 2014 after more than a year of beta testing, is the product of a decade-long effort led by Jeffrey Burns, MD, MPH, chief of critical care at Boston Children’s Hospital, and Traci Wolbrink, MD, MPH, an attending physician at the hospital.
