The Family Medical Coping Initiative (FMCI) is a multidisciplinary coping support educational program spearheaded by a psychologist, Elisa Bronfman, PhD; a clinical social worker, Annie Banks, LICSW; and a child life specialist, Gail Windmueller, MA, MS, CCLS.
The Family Medical Coping Initiative aims to enhance patient and family coping with medical conditions and the experience of medical care. This mission is supported through offering online continuing education seminars for healthcare providers, webinars for patients and families, and access to a host of informational and supportive resources through the FMCI website.

Guest presenter: Olivia Moorehead-Slaughter, PhD
Dr. Moorehead-Slaughter (she/her) is a licensed child clinical psychologist with more than 35 years of experience working with children, adolescents, families, and adults across a range of settings including outpatient mental health clinics, schools, childcare centers, juvenile and probate courts, community health centers, and social service agencies. For 26 years, she was a psychologist at The Park School in Brookline, Mass. She is also a faculty member at the Center for Multicultural Training in Psychology, a predoctoral internship program at Boston University School of Medicine and Boston Medical Center. She has a private consulting practice which includes working with community-based organizations, health care entities, and independent schools throughout the country on issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion; clinical consultation; coaching/mentoring; and presentations, retreats, trainings, and workshops. Dr. Moorehead-Slaughter is also the former Chair of the Massachusetts Board of Licensure for Psychologists and the American Psychological Association (APA) Ethics Committee. She is past president of APA’s Division 35 (The Society for the Psychology of Women) and in 2014, she received the Division 35 Bonnie R. Strickland and Jessica Henderson Daniel Distinguished Mentoring Award. In 2019, she was the recipient of APA’s Division 35 Foremothers Mentorship Career Excellence Award. She was given a National Multicultural Conference and Summit (NMCS) Distinguished Elder Award in 2024. Dr. Moorehead-Slaughter is the former chair of the APA Board for the Advancement of Psychology in the Public Interest (BAPPI) and a former member of the APA Board of Educational Affairs (BEA). Currently, she is the Recording Secretary of the APA Board of Directors, and she is a member of the Massachusetts Psychological Association Ethics Committee. Dr. Moorehead-Slaughter particularly enjoys writing for and presenting to parents. In 2024, she co-edited “The Parents’ Guide to Psychological First Aid: Helping Children and Adolescents Cope with Predictable Life Crises.”
