Professional History
Dr. McAdam received his MD and PhD from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. He completed residency in Clinical Pathology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and is board certified in Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology and by the American Board of Medical Microbiology. Dr. McAdam is the Interim Chief of the Department of Laboratory Medicine and has been the Medical Director of the Infectious Diseases Diagnostic Laboratory since 2001. He is an Associate Professor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. McAdam is the Editor-in-Chief of the “Journal of Clinical Microbiology” and an Editor of both the “Manual of Clinical Microbiology” and the forthcoming “Manual of Molecular Microbiology,” all published by the American Society for Microbiology. He is an elected Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology. Dr. McAdam is Co-Director of the microbiology section for Harvard Medical School and oversees integration of microbiology throughout the medical curriculum as the Theme Faculty for Microbiology. Dr. McAdam’s research is on the utility of diagnostic tests for infectious diseases in children and on evolution of bacteria during chronic infections of humans.
