Our 30-bed, Level III/IV neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) provides expert, multidisciplinary intensive care for high-risk infants with complex medical and surgical needs.

At Boston Children’s, infants receive care tailored to their specific needs in different clinical units, which means they may transfer between units as necessary during their stay. Our Neonatology Consultation Service offers comprehensive care and ongoing support for premature and term-born infants throughout their hospital course.

Our expert team ensures continuity of care at every stage throughout the hospital stay, including:

• Prenatal consultations
• Surgical and post-operative support
• Hospital discharge planning

This coordinated approach helps us provide the best possible care for infants and their families.

Our Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia Program provides comprehensive, continuous care for infants at risk for or diagnosed with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD). Our team of neonatologists, pediatric pulmonologists, cardiologists, respiratory therapists, nurses, nutritionists, and physical and occupational therapists offers expert assessment and management for these infants, supporting their journey from the NICU to home to ensure the best possible outcomes for their health and development.

Our Neonatal Genomics Program diagnoses and cares for infants with rare diseases and helps counsel families. We bring together a multidisciplinary team with clinical and research expertise to provide care tailored to each infant.

Our Neonatal Neuroprotection and Neuroplasticity Program is dedicated to turning laboratory discoveries into effective, individualized treatments for infants with neurological diseases or brain injuries.

Our NICU Growth and Development Support (GraDS) Program offers long-term follow-up care for infants born prematurely or with complex surgical or genetic diagnoses. We assess patients within three months of discharge from the NICU and continue care for at least three years. Our services include evaluations by a neonatologist, physical therapist, child psychologist, and social worker to support every child’s development.

We work closely with the Fetal Care and Surgery Center to coordinate prenatal consultation and intensive care after delivery for infants with a wide range of conditions diagnosed before birth.

The Division of Newborn Medicine shares close clinical and academic affiliations with several excellent maternity-based newborn units in the Boston area. These institutions refer newborns to Boston Children’s Hospital for specialized therapies and subspecialty services. Locations include:
